The scanner is a filter, not an entry signal

A fast scanner solves an attention problem: thousands of listed stocks are reduced to a manageable stream of unusual activity. It does not solve the decision problem. Price movement can be real while the trade is still late, illiquid, or structurally weak.

TraderBase treats every scanner event as the start of an investigation. Open the Agent sidebar beside the scanner, confirm the page-context chip, and ask it to explain the measured trigger, compare participation, summarize available catalysts, and call out missing or delayed data. Then open the ticker and verify structure, liquidity, source timing, and freshness yourself.

The Agent sidebar keeps the current page context visible and offers either a one-click Agent Brief or a page-aware question.

Use a two-pass watchlist

The first pass is broad and mechanical. Look for meaningful gaps, relative volume, sufficient session volume, and a price range appropriate for your process. The second pass is selective: remove wide spreads, extended charts, unclear catalysts, and names that cannot define a clean invalidation level.

  • Confirm that volume is expanding, not merely left over from one early print.
  • Compare price with VWAP, premarket high, and the opening range.
  • Prefer a small list you can monitor well over a crowded grid of marginal names.
  • Treat weak scanner output as a valid no-trade condition.
Two-pass watchlist funnel separating broad mechanical scanning from selective chart, liquidity, catalyst, and risk validation.
Premarket candidates are provisional; post-open evidence can rerank or remove them without requiring a trade.

Re-rank after the open

Premarket leadership is provisional. Once regular liquidity arrives, candidates should prove that buyers can defend levels and that spreads remain manageable. A gapper losing VWAP and the opening range may belong on a fade list—or nowhere at all. A quieter name holding structure with accelerating volume may move up the list.

Use Agent Brief to inventory current symbols and recent event types, then ask a narrower follow-up: compare the remaining names by RVOL, dollar volume, spread, range position, repeat alerts, catalyst availability, and Updated time. The goal is not to predict every move. It is to know which evidence deserves manual review and what removes a symbol from consideration.
